Infants dug up because of perversion; woman freed

Aizawl Oct 20:The police have set free the woman K Vanlalthanga have accused of being his employer in last week's grave robbing case after Vanlalthanga made a full confession that the robbing of infants' bodies was done by him for perverted acts.

The woman, Vanhnuaithangi of Darlawng hamlet, about 40 km from Aizawl, was released by the police Saturday after Vanlathanga made a confession that he had fabricated lies about her involvement in the grave robbing and that he had implicated someone who doesn't even know him to avoid being beaten too severely by the villagers of Tlungvel village.

According to the Bawngkawn police in Aizawl North, Vanlalthanga, who was disturbed while trying to dig out the body of a newly dead infant on the night of October 16, 2002 by the Village Defense Party of Tlungvel village and later caught while breaking into the home of a man in the village, made a confession saying he used to dig up newly buried dead infants to satisfy his perversion which was to fondle their genitals and masturbate.

The first time he gave in to this urge was in 1993 and the night he was caught was the fourth time.

Vanhnuaithangi, a 57 year-old woman from Darlawng, a hamlet just after Tlungvel village, was beaten black and blue by the women of Tlungvel village after she was implicated in the grave robbing incident by Vanlalthanga, a 30-year bachelor from Tlungvel village.

She was brought to the Civil Hospital in the city unconscious by the Tlungvel people.

Vanlalthanga had alleged Vanhnuaithangi had hired him to dig up the graves on a payment of Rs 2000 for each grave and that she had two accomplices from Myanmar.



Khaibak Enterprise accuses Zirliana of "having something up his sleeve"

Aizawl Oct 20:Mizoram ginger procurer, Khaibak Enterprise of Noida, UP, have accused R Lalzirliana, MLA and Congress Vigilance Committee chairman of making up things for personal and political gains against the firm and the Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga.

In an interview conducted through email by Zolentu monthly magazine, G Grinder Muivah, owner of the said enterprise said he had done nothing to cheat the Mizo people or the government of Mizoram.

"I believe in God..... If I have cheated the government of Mizoram and its people, let the God of Mr Lalzirliana and Mr Grinder be the judge. I am not doing business.... for loss nor am I trying to cheat them....... I am helping the people and the government of Mizoram.... What Mr Zirliana is doing will adversely harm the poor farmers...... I bet he has something up his sleeves for petty personal and political gain" G G Muivah was quoted as saying by Zolentu.

Clearing up the air about how the firm came to be involved in procuring ginger cultivated in Mizoram, Muivah said his firm had been contacted by MAMCO (Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Corporation) to come to Kolkata to meet MAMCO officials to discuss and negotiate the purchase of Mizoram ginger.

He, however, omitted to mention how his firm came to be known by MAMCO since this is first venture of the firm in the ginger procurement area according to Stanlee Mahongnao, the manager of the Mizoram branch of Khaibak Enterprise whom Newslink talked to on Saturday.

According to Mahongnao, Khaibak Enterprise deals mainly in construction and textiles and are most active in Manipur.



MPCB against more industries in the city

Aizawl Oct 20:The Mizoram Pollution Control Board, after years of inactivity, have finally decided to make its presence known when it decided against any additions of industrial establishments within the city boundaries at a meeting held Friday last.

At this meeting, the MPCB decided to control industrial mushrooming by making it mandatory for anyone setting up an industry to first obtain permission from the Board in order to control the pollution in the state.

Among other decisions, the MPCB also decided that wastes that can be recycled be recycled and that wastes and rubbish not be disposed of any which way. The disposal of wastes will be taken up with the LAD sanitation department which is taking up waste disposal for the city.

Air pollution meters will also be placed in three strategic locations in the city, namely BAwngkawn Square, Treasury Square and Khatla Square in conjunction with the Pollution Prevention Month which comes in December.



Lucknow, Patna mission field crusade from Monday

Aizawl Oct 20:In a joint effort, the Mizoram Synod Mission Board and the Mission Vengthlang pastorate will commencea field crusade/campaign at Lucknow and Patna from October 21.

To participate in this crusade, a 14 member Mission Veng Kohhran Ramthar choir have left the city Friday. They were accompanied by elder Lalthlengliana and secretary Lalthangliana Varte.

The choir will conduct their first crusade in Lucknow from october 21 to 22 and then attend a Convention at the Tameri Mission Center on October 24.

On october 25, the choir will proceed to Patna where they will visit different places where the Synod Mission working with the people. After attending a convention at Lodiha from Nov 1 to 3 and visiting the Dumka field on November 4, they conclude their crusade at St Joseph School and Don Bosco School on November 5.



SDO found dead inside bus

Aizawl Oct 20:Tlabung PWD SDO (TC), Gangadharan was found dead in his seat in a Capital Travels bus coming from Guwahati Saturday afternoon.

The man, who was coming to Aizawl on the night bus from Guwahati was found dead in his seat at around 1:00 pm Saturday afternoon near Kawnpui.

An examination of the man by doctors have confirmed he died of a heart attack.
