April 26, 2004 It's once again time to get those candidate forms in! The ETA for the third hatching is mid-May. The forms are due May 8th, but the sooner you get them in the sooner we can start planning and try to accommodate your preferences!

You're also welcome (and encouraged) to submit new candidate characters for this hatching until the 8th. Sooner you get them in, the more time you'll have to play and develop them!

Please send the form to the BoD list ([email protected]). Don't be silly like me and send it to the whole list on accident!
1.) Candidate Name:
2.) Gender:

3.) Color Preference: Please list the top three colors youd like for your persona. If you only have one preference, please list do not Impress for your second and third options. If you have an equal preference for two colors, please put them on the same line. Remember, sexual orientation does not affect Impression in our club. If you have no preference and would like the BoD to surprise you, please say so here.

4.) If your character Impresses, would you like the BoD to name your dragon, or do you have a name in mind already? (No pun names like Myth, Faith, Megadeth, etc. Abnormal names may not be accepted.)
a. Please name my dragon.
b. Id like to call my dragon.

5.) In a paragraph or two, please tell us about your color choices (or lack of.) From an out of character perspective, why do you think your candidate should Impress at this hatching? (We're looking for more than just a list of in character personality strengths, please!) What plots do you have in mind? Is there a particular reason you've requested a certain color? Now is your chance to explain why you want a dragon for your character and what you directions you'd like to go in.

April 1, 2004 And there you thought the northerners were gone for good! Visit the history page for more details on our latest plot twist.

March 17, 2004 The hatching is done and over. Big congrats to the new dragon partners! If you'd like to Impress at the next hatching, please... submit and play those candidates now! This is the last of the artificial clutches, so we're going to be extra picky about who the dragons go to!

February 12, 2004 The website has a new layout! Yay! We've added lots of fun pictures around the webpage. See if you can find them all!

January 21, 2004 We now have a message board! Thank you for hosting it, Jessica!

January 19, 2004 There is a new section to our world info page featuring airsleds. A must read for pilots!

January 14, 2004 We're having a contest for Pern's very first HAD (hears all dragons)! Sound fun? Then read on!

- Make sure you're current member of New Landing by the coontest deadline. Not sure if this is you? If you have at least one approved persona you're a member!
- Decide whether you'd like to create an all new character, or have one of your existing ones discover he or she can hear dragons. (Or the dragons of other folks, if your character is a dragonrider.)
- Write a brief paragraph or two explaining why you'd like a HAD character. What plots do you have in mind? How strong are his or her abilities? Are you commited to writing a potentially demanding character?
- Hit up one of your fellow members for a copost. This copost will explore how your character discovers he or she can hear dragons. You're welcome to solicit the mailing list to find a writing partner (dragon swap, anyone?), or bug the BoD if you can't get anyone else. This will be your chance to show off your writing and coposting abilities, and how you plan to use your character!
- When you're completed, send your persona sheet (if you're entering a new character), explanation paragraph, and copost to [email protected] by January 30, 2004.
- After the entry deadline, the BoD will put together all of the entries and send them to the group. Members will have the opportunity to read the persona sheets (for new characters), proposals, and coposts then vote for their favorite. The character with the most votes will be the winner, and Pern's very first HAD!

There have been a few big updates around the site! The dragons page has been updated with all the new facts about dragonkind learned from the hatching. We also have a dragon-raising guide to aid in writing about the new dragons!

December 28, 2003 New! Frequently Asked Questions, which also include anticipated questions. Enjoy! Please E-mail Ariel if you can think of anything that wasn't addressed!

December 9, 2003 The Pre-Pern history is up! Thank you Melissa for putting it together! The history is an interpretation of the bits and pieces the books tell us about life before Pern. This is what we will be using as our club's history.

December 3, 2003 Hello all! We are aiming to hold our first hatching in early January. We've decided to make December 15 the deadline for new candidates eligible for the first hatching! There should be a candidate form in your mailboxes, which is also due December 15 if you'd like your persona to be considered for Impression. In the mean time, play those candidates! We are going to be very selective about who gets a dragon, and we will give dragons to NPCs rather than unplayed candidates.

November 30, 2003 Month 13's calendar has been added. (Weather will be added soon.) Because we started so late in month 12, play will be extended through December. You're welcome to set Threads during either of the two months.

November 25, 2003 The character creation page has received a make-over, including new information about personas with rare physical characteristics.

November 19, 2003 Role-playing is going great! Thank you everyone for helping us come this far and all your contributions to the club!

There are a few clubs out their who have their own humorous "what not to make your character" pages. Thanks to Melissa, we now have our own first pass version! Meet Righinn.

November 16, 2003 Lots of new updates today! The calendar is now up and running! We've also added a more detailed timeline and NPC holds to the world history page.

Look for the first RP post from the BoD in the next day or two! Then RP will be open to everyone who has sent in their introductory sample post. If you haven't got it in yet, you're welcome to take as long as you need to, but you won't be allowed to participate in RP until we've seen yours!

November 9, 2003 We've added details about education in the first pass. Check it out! Feel free to ask about any careers that are missing.

Thank you for hanging in there as we scramble to get everything ready! We now have posted the revised writing requirements. Because dragons will be very rare until they are old enough to reproduce, all dragonriders will be considered a ranking character. All colors have equal writing requirements. Also, we've added a rule about pets being played. We'd like to hear from pets at least once a month, and twice a month for bronze and gold fire lizards. If you're worried about meeting these requirements, you're welcome to retract a pet you gave your character.

November 6, 2003 We've been approved! Thank you everyone who has helped us come this far! We are going to kick off role-playing very soon with an introductory post from the BoD.

The BoD has adopted a mentoring policy for new members, but because we're a brand new club we'd like to see a sample post from everyone. Because the first pass is so much different than later Pern, we want to make sure everyone understands the time period and concept of the club. We may ask you to make revisions, but once your post is approved you're welcome to join role-playing! (Once the BoD sends out our opening post, that is, which should be within the week.) It could be a day-in-the-life post, the start of a round-robin thread, or just something as simple as eating breakfast with a friend! It doesn't have to be long, just a few paragraphs. When completed, please send it to the BoD and we'll give you feedback!

Last but not least, please welcome Melissa to the Board of Directors!

November 5, 2003 A detailed list of what exactly is known, suspected, and unknown has been added to the dragons page. Also, there has been a slight modification to the club rules in regard to mentioning Kitti Ping in character.

October 27, 2003 We've got a new map of the hold's structure. Check it out! Thank you Melissa!

October 26, 2003 We're still pending approval. I know it's a long wait, thanks for being patient everyone! I've been having computer problems and lost a lot of files so it's been taking a while to get reorganized. Sorry about the slow delay. Feel free to E-mail us if you haven't heard back on your persona approval... Yahoo Groups has been unreliable lately and not sending through all of our mail.

October 4, 2004 We've applied for approval! It make take a few weeks to hear back, but in the mean time why not create a few personas to populate the hold and Impress those eggs?

September 29, 2003 Our website is up and running! We haven't been approved yet, but you're welcome to join in the mean time! Role-playing will begin once we get approval from the Anne McCaffrey team! We need all sorts of personas... sled pilots, farmers, doctors, scientists, and of course, candidates!
