The final race of the season would see Geoff Bonner
lead the 88 drivers to the green flag. Some early cautions would slow
the race pace down. But it would be evident that Bonner and Scrimgeour
would be the drivers to beat. In the end, Bonner would be walking
away rebounding after bringing out the caution flags twice. Details
Fuel
Makes The Difference
Scott Scrimgeour would be the class of the field with a
run similar to that of Earnhardt JR in the Nextel Cup cars. But fuel
worries would have the #33 back off with 15 laps to go allowing the #28
to take over the point position for the final circuits. The Skoal team
would apply pressure at the end but the Havoline car would make it back
to the line although the fuel pressure light would be on. Only one
caution would come out during the race which would allow the race to run
off at a solid pace. Details
Ten cautions would slow the race pace down, but it
would be a nail biter as the lead would swap 23 times at the line. Hard
charger racing and slick conditions would make a recipe for disaster in
the caution department yet most drivers came away from the race feeling
it was fun just the same. It would be a new face in victory circle as
Bryan White drove his Levi Chevy to winner's row leading a total of 20
laps over 8 different segments of the race. It would be an exciting
finish as the #5 car stormed back up through the field after being spun
on lap 85 and sent to the rear of the pack. Details
Somber
Race At Martinsville
It would be the last visit to a short track for the 2004
season and unfortunately it would be on a sad note with the news of the
recent tragedy at Henderick Motorsports. A small field would make the
100 lap race that would see three caution flags. Yates power would
prevail although Dan Searle would close the gap in during the second
half of the event. Details
Rough Race At Talladega
It would be an unusually rough run at Talladega for the
88 series. Although the caution flag only flew three times, two early
spins that failed to bring out the caution saw damage to three of the
top contenders which included Scrimgeour, MacLean and MacDonald. The
field would see one green flag pit stop although it would be a bit messy
getting on to pit road. In the end it would come down to Scrimgeour
being pushed by Schwartz to try and edge out Mullin at the line. Two
drivers would leave on a unhappy note serving notice that they would not
be returning to the 88 series. Don Burchill and Peter Seymour both gave
notice and cleaned out lockers #17 and #31 respectively after feeling
they were wrongfully accused of blocking in the early going. Race
director Scott Mullin had indicated during the first caution that he
wanted the leaders to 'pick a lane' to promote more passing. Details
Bonner Seals Win With Solid Run To Checkers
It would finally all come together for Geoff Bonner who
started shot gun on the field and methodically worked his way to the
front. Bonner would lead 58 of the 100 laps with a huge lead on the
second and third spots when the caution would fly on the white flag lap.

NASCAR Impounds #29 After Scuffle
Ralph Colford would be in for surprise as he entered
his garage to find newcomer Bryan White belted into his #29 Hardees
Oldsmobile. Words would be exchanged to the point the two drivers would
get into a shoving match. NASCAR officials would step in to try and get
a handle on the problem. After several confusing moments the #29 would
be impounded raising many eye brows in the pit area. Fortunately both
drivers would be able to find other rides to get them into the show.
Colford would be the one to rebound the quickest scoring the pole
position for Richard Childress in the #3 Goodwrench Monte Carlo running
in the top five until a transmission problem would force him to the
garage for the night. White however would have a solid run finishing in
the second spot in his #5 machine. Hopefully the team will take some of
the winnings to their local hardware store to get some paint for next
weeks big run at Talladega.
