Talladega

All eyes would be on the #43 of Harry MacLean who pretty much owns the restrictor plate tracks. But it would be Carman Schwartz who would clock in the fastest time during practice at 49.902 seconds for 191.896 mph. Qualifying however would have Ralph Colford on the pole at 53.066 seconds for 180.455 mph. Scott Scrimgeour would started on the outside of row one with a solid 180.441 mph.

Vince MacDonald would take over the point position in lap 2 with the assistance of Scott Scrimgeour. Colford would get shuffled to the 6th spot as the field freight trained by. One lap later MacDonald would find himself heading to the rear as Scrimgeour and MacLean mounted the pass coming off turn 2.

On lap 4 it would be the #43 taking up the point position with the drivers worst nightmare taking shape as the 43, 33 and 28 would get together in line. Peter Seymour would waste little time breaking up this trio however.

The first incident of the night would come out on lap 5 when Mike Rogers would drift high coming off turn 2 clipping MacDonald sending him for a wild ride. John Agnew would also go for a ride after he checked up and got tapped by Carman Schwartz in the #12 car. Oddly enough the caution would not come out as both drivers would get their machines rolling.

On lap seven Peter Seymour and Don Burchill would hook up on the inside lane to take over the lead.

Lap nine and Scott Scrimgeour got too high in turn two clipping the wall sending him back across the track into Harry MacLean. Again no caution would come out. Don Burchill would take over the point position from Seymour heading to the line.

The first caution comes out on lap 15 as Peter Seymour climbs the track touching Colford sending sending both cars to the wall hard. The field would pit for fuel and rubber with Mike Rogers taking over the lead. Don Burchill would retire his ride for the night and later announce he was officially retired from the series.

Restart lap 20 with Mullin being chased by Colford. One lap later the big one would come out after Rogers hit the turn 2 wall bouncing out collecting MacLean. Scrimgeour and MacDonald. The leaders would pit again but this time it would be pole sitter Ralph Colford leading the way.

Lap 27 would see the next major caution of the race when Seymour and Blaxland would get together in turn 2 causing another multicar wreck collecting the #29 and #42. Rogers would be done for the night with a broken camshaft. Again the field would pit for service.

Restart lap 32 with Seymour in the lead. It would be the beginning of regular 88 racing with the lead being challenged every lap. Leaders would be quickly pushed to the back of the pack. By lap 37 the field would start to see some three wide racing as cars began to jockey for position before the final pit stop.

By lap forty five Mullin, Scrimgeour and MacLean would be hooked up again on the high side making the outside groove work.

Green flag pit stops on lap 47 would get messy as Schwartz clipped Searle who was heading to pit road but then changed his mind. A chain reaction wreck would collect Searle, Colford, MacLean, and Seymour. Several cars would get penalties after the incident which would end their shot at the win. Seymour would retire his ride in frustration later officially announcing his retirement from the series.

Fuel only would place Scrimgeour and Mullin out of the pits first setting up a dash to the checkers. With draft assistance from Schwartz, Scrimgeour would make a last chance pass attempt heading to the line but would come up short by half a car length.
