Solemn Win For Yates Team

It would be a small and somber crowd for the final short track race of the season. Perhaps due to the tragic news of the plane crash on Sunday involving members of Hendrick Motorsports. Scott Scrimgeour would land the pole flanked by Bryan White making it an all Chevy front row. 
Vince MacDonald would waste little time moving his Thunderbird into the second spot getting under White in turn turn 1. Mullin would take over the 4th spot from Ralph Colford in the same turn. By lap 6 MacDonald was now challenging for the lead as Scrimgeour got high heading into turn 3.
The first caution would come out on lap 8 when Colford would just barely nudge the #11 Bud car of Searle who had climbed to the 4th spot. The field would pit for tires and fuel.
Fast pit work would put the Skoal Bandit machine back in front with Mullin now taking over the second spot. Green flag racing would restart on lap 14.  By lap 19 both Mullin and MacDonald would be challenging Scrimgeour. Mulllin would get by taking over the lead while MacDonald continued to add pressure. A vicious battle would be waged for the second spot as the 33 and 7 ran hard side by side. On lap 23 MacDonald would get the pass completed.  
The caution would come out for the second time of the night on lap 29 when Scrimgeour would lose it by himself coming off turn 4. 
Again the field would pit for tires and fuel. A super clean pit stop would have the 28 car out first maintaining the lead followed by MacDonald, Scrimgeour and Searle.
Green flag would wave again on lap 35 but would be short lived when Carman Schwartz got into the left rear panel of Peter Seymour heading into turn 3. Seymour would pit for tires while the rest of the field stayed out.
The green flag would wave again on lap 41. Dan Searle would be driving the wheels off his Bud Chevy in efforts to chase down the leaders. By lap 49 Searle would be passing Scrimgeour and working over MacDonald taking the 7 car on the next lap. For the next 51 laps Searle would work on closing the 3.8 second gap down on the Havoline car. 
NASCAR would hand out the black flagon lap 67 to the Valvoline car of Carman Schwartz who was unable to maintain the minimum track speed.
Searle would get within visual range but would have a transmission failure that would remove any chance of mounting a charge on the lead. The 28 team would quietly take the checkers and head straight to the haulers.
