THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY
Twas the night before surgery approaching the castle
The nurse took my pre-op vitals without too much hassle
My stockings were snug on my two legs with care
In hopes that no blood clots could ever form there

I dreamed of how great it would be to be in my own bed
While visions of catheters kicked round my head
The doc in his scrubs and I in my backless frock
Had just settled down after a heated "PAIN" talk

When all of sudden I guess I was out
I woke up as someone was wheeling me about
My eyes sprang open and twitched side to side
I clutched for my crown with such Princess Pride!

When what, through my groggy and foggy brain see
But a nice PCA with a pain button, just for me!
And my lively young Doctor, so smart and so cute
He asked right away if Id yet to toot!

More staples than legal, my tummy had caught
My Doctor then bellowed Now Listen, my tot!
No lifting, no bending, no dancing, no fixin
No Comet for cleaning, no boudoir mixin
From now til our 6 week visit, I say,
Just pamper the princess, now have a good day!

b u l l e t A Poem by Ramoth ~ on her 2 year anniversary

Twas the 7th of Dec just 2 years before
Had a hot date for surgery and the hope for much more
A new day to greet me, a new chance at life
I just couldn't wait to go under the knife

Dr. Jenkins did his magic like he seems to do
And I woke up in recovery and went boo hoo hoo
I was sure that I messed up, hey, just let me stay fat
Give me some morphine and toridol STAT!

But 2 years later as I look back at that day
I'm so grateful I did it and so glad I can say
Dr Jenkins has given me the gift of good health
It's a present that means so much more than wealth

My blessings are many, my worries are few
And with this season my wish for you
Have a wonderful holiday, may your smile shine bright
And may your clothes never again feel they're too tight.

Walking past the mirrored glass,
I take a timid peek,
I see a woman staring back,
I'm too choked up to speak.

The puffiness, at last, is gone,
The skin is pink and glowing,
The many pounds that melted off,
Finally, is showing.

Hard to believe, till recently,
This same woman was dying,
Stuffing food to ease the pain,
Heartbroken and crying.

Life revolved around each snack,
She lived for every meal,
Anything to numb the hurt,
She didn't want to feel.

When did she get so pretty?
When did God remove the grief?
How did this miracle happen?
Who provided the relief?

What a gift! A second chance!
I thank God every day,
For His grace in showing me,
There IS a better way.

I walk, I dance, I make love too,
My heart is filled with gladness,
I'm out of bondage, out of pain,
There is no room for sadness.

This woman in the mirror,
Smiles softly back at me,
She has good cause to be so pleased,
She's finally been set free.

b u l l e t Prayer to the Whoosh Fairy
Author Unknown

Now I lay me down to sleep
A cup of splenda at my feet!
I'll be good and drink my water--
Leave the grape juice for my daughter.
I promise to eat all my eggs,
So take these bulges from my legs!
I'll eat my pork--I'll eat a steer--
Just smooth these bumps off my rear!
I'll never even look at jelly,
Please take the blub out of my belly.
These lips will never taste a sweet,
(Oh if I could only see my feet!)
So, please, tonight before I wake,
A few more pounds--Whoosh Fairy--Take!

b u l l e t A Poem by Amy M

A Poem for Lisa B

I have a friend, she's your friend, too.
Lisa's her name! I love her, don't you?

She once was a big girl, but the pounds she did lose,
By shrinking her stomach and cutting out booze. (j/k LOL)

Her fat went away, but her skin gave her woes.
Her tummy hung down all the way to her toes.

She searched for a doc to trim her up right.
But insurance denied, so she put up a fight.

The appeal came through and she was filled with glee.
But the surgery got cancelled because of Strep B.

Rescheduled again, but her platelets were low.
They wouldn't cut in till her blood was just so.

We've got it this time, let's try it again!
But now where's the doctor? In Afghanistan!

The fourth time's a charm, this has got to be it.
But her clotting is off, and so is her 'crit.

After 3 months of iron and B12 galore,
She's scheduled to show up at three-fourths past four.

At 7 a.m. at the great Wilford Hall,
Lisa's finally having her surgery, y'all!!

b u l l e t What is your Worth?
Author unknown

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill.

In the room of 200, he asked, who would like this $20 bill? Hands started going up. He said, I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up. He then asked, who still wants it? Still the hands were up in the air.

Well, he replied, what if I do this? And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. Now who still wants it? Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value: dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special - Don't EVER forget it.
