Name: Saruman
Species: Wizard
Sex: Male
Home: Isengard

Saruman came to Middle-Earth as the chief of the Istari and head of the White Council. Saruman was greatly interested in the lore of the rings and Sauron's history. Saruman's greatest power was his voice, to the unaware listener it sounded like an elvish song and he could persuade virtually anyone to do his bidding. In about 3000 Saruman began using the palantir at Orthanc and fell under Sauron's control. He sent Grima to Theodin to poison his mind and built an army of Urukai for Sauron. After the Ents attacked Isengard Saruman was kept locked in until after the War of the Ring Treebeard released him, thinking him to be harmless. Saruman had long had secret dealings with the Shire, and he immediately fled there. When Frodo, Sam, Pippin and Merry finally returned to the Shire they found the hobbits basically enslaved. They roused the hobbits into a great rebellion and caused all Saruman's henchmen to flee. Without his henchmen Saruman was basically powerless, but before he fled he tried to stab Frodo with a concealed dagger which glanced off Frodo's armor. Frodo was still willing to let Saruman leave but Grima cut his throat before being shot by hobbit archers.
