In 3018 Gimli went with his father Gloin to Rivendell for the Council of Elrond, and became one of the 9 companions in the Fellowship of the Ring. He was the first dwarf to visit Lothlorien since Durin's day, and became very close friends with Legolas. After the War of the Ring he travelled with Legolas and was lord of the Glittering Caves, finally sailing over the sea with Legolas as the last of the Fellowship.
