Born in 2890 Bilbo joined Gandalf's party when he was young to destroy the dragon Smaug in the Lonely Mountains. While on this quest Bilbo found the Ring of Power in Gollum's cave, and took it for himself. After Frodo's parent's death he adopted Frodo and when he left for Rivendell left everything to him. After the War of the Ring Bilbo sailed over the sea with Frodo, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel.
