Hands-on-Learning: I feel that the best way to help children learn is to make learning fun! Important concepts can be learned from doing meaningful hands-on-learning. There are times when seatwork is required and necessary, but for the most part our classroom will be an active learning environment.
Health: Please let me know of special circumstances that may affect your child. This may include medications that make him/her sleepy, a death in the family, etc... Also, please let me know of any allergies your child may have, especially food allergies.
Homework: Homework will be sent home once a month. Your child should complete this work by him/herself, under your supervision, and return it to school at the end of the month. Please do not fill out your child's homework for them. Completing and returning homework helps build a sense of responsibility. Returning neatly competed homework will earn a sticker.
Help at Home: Practice these readiness skills: *Full name *Address *Telephone number *Parents names *Basic Colors *Alphabet *Printing first name beginning with a capital letter and the rest in lower case Please work on these skills as well: *Identifying letter names and sounds *Birthday (Month/day) *Tying shoes *Counting (up to 100) *Shape names *Printing letters Your extra help at home really makes a difference!

Illness: If your child is ill, it is important to keep him/her home from school. This prevents spreading the illness and also helps your child to be more comfortable

Journals: We will be writing in journals frequently. In these journals the students will combine their emerging writing skills with their drawing skills to convey meaning. Their skill level will increase from drawings and inventive spelling towards more conventional writing.
