Five Hundred Pieces
The creation does not manifest itself
without the effort of coordination
between hand and eye,
without hours of problematic solving and cursing
without deliberate testing between pairs of pieces
that appear to be identical.
Just like the days that surround us
we find ways to make our ends meet
unsure what our next move might be
certain that we will find the tile
that spurs inspiration
or a moment of mastery.
the piece I possess will unlock
all the mysteries of the world
the piece I possess will reveal
all our earthly perplexities
Unsure why the effort ever was initiated
aware the completion is only another beginning
I sort through the five hundred pieces anyway
confident that the closure
of the multidimensional looking glass
will produce an image Ive yet to understand.
