An Exercise of Existence
Remote and wandering
passively pursuing
the mystic arena
allowing the release
the reason
the method
for expressing existence
in a world once facile
to calculate value
justify action
or predict
the eventide
The sun always arrives
without reason
never departs
without saying good-bye
its predictability
proclaims aliveness
brings a smile
a warmth
a promise
never gone unbroken
always certain
never unforgiving
The ages have brought guilt
upon the faces
of family and friends
and strangers
their penance
is unending
thoughtful
merciless
perpetuating reasons
to pretend
to create
and remain
