BAR-the-LONA
DAY ONE
i had lunch at juanito banyans place in the La Boqueria (andronicos or whole foods magnified with lots of little restaurants).  i asked "que em recomana?" to which the delighted, perpetually smiling, spiky haired, bow-tie wearing Juanito did a double take cuz i asked in catalan - he gave me a wink and cava (champagne) and recommended longostina.  Vale, vale (ok) I said and trusted his judgement.  The lobster was PERFECT!  Funny, if you dont order a starter or a first course ... youll get exactly what you order and nothing else. I finished with a perfectly brewed cortado (espresso with steamed milk) that became my favorite coffee drink!  Great first meal to start off my trip.
I spent most of Saturday on La Rambla.  Markets, markets, markets!  since it was the weekend the vendors were out in full force.  the weather was nice too.  i dunno if barcelona is always this crowded but damn there are alot of tourists!  It did however make for entertaining people watching.
i met some Madridllenos at the christopher columbus monument - hence the pose.  They spoke english like i spoke spanish so we spent alot of time gesturing, laughing and not knowing what the hell was being said ... except for "quiere cervesa?"
i came back "home" to get ready to go to the flamenco show at tablao de carmen in poble espanyol which started at midnight.  wow!!  they even had men flamenco dancers.  one guy had curly blond hair and danced in his 3 piece suit ... very hot ... and very gay.  one of the diva singers was an old queen (with perfectly applied pale pink lipstick) who was very sweet.  interesting note:  when flirting - catalans say hola guapo or hola guapa (as in hey good lookin!).  what a great introduction to the city of peacocks who preen and pose for everyone's viewing pleasure.
