Other:

Mops Committee members to bring garden trowels.  Thyme planted two months before the craft and propagated so that we had 30 thyme plants.

Herbs potted into ice cream containers a week ahead of craft.

The thyme is best in the bottom pot as it grows it can be wrapped around and pushed into the potting mix, it sends down roots.  The parsley works best in the top pot.  The chives are just an extra.

How it went:

Mums were very creative in the painting of the pots.

Unfortunately we were 1 craft short.  27 mums came on this day.

Feedback was very positive – the mums seemed to enjoy this one.  Timing worked well.  We started a rolling morning tea about 10am as many of the mums were still painting the pots.

Further Notes from questions about this craft:

The terracotta pots were purchased from ‘More than Pots’ in Hamilton Ph 07-847 1556.

For future reference - paint a sealer inside the pots before the craft.  Due to the porous terracotta the potting mix has dried out easily and been a bit impractical to look after.

The herbs were sourced from Pak n Save – they sell around 12 herbs wrapped in newspaper for $2.95 per bundle.  Thyme can be easily propagated by burying bits of the plant under potting mix, it only seems to take a few weeks before extra roots grow and you have extra plants.
