Out On A Limb

My family was always close when I was just a child
We laughed and cried and often joked, but compared to them I'm wild
I chose a different path. I've walked some roads alone
At times incurred their wrath, but now my life's my own.

We look at the world differently, my family and me.
They don't like to see the pain around them, act like nothin's there to see
It's not their business, not their concern, "Those people chose their reality"
Throw money and away they turn, but I just can't do that, the "others" are me.

    CHORUS:
    I'm out on a limb
    Lost somewhere in time
    I'm facing the world
In my own frame of mind

No one here to catch me
    When I stumble and fall
So I'm out on a limb
But I'm learnin to stand tall

Once we walked the streets like them with nothing but what we carried.
No home, no car, no family or friends, trying to support my kids and me
Grocery clerks looked at us strange. People driving by just looked away.
'Took all we had not to complain, "It's their problem" I'd try to say.

With help and work we're off the streets. I had to ask for help from strangers.
Now I'm standing on my own two feet and my kids are out of danger.
We're living free away from his abuse. We're feeling peace within our hearts,
And when I see a stranger being used I know I've gotta do my part.

    CHORUS:
    I'm out on a limb
    Lost somewhere in time
    I'm facing the world
In my own frame of mind

No one here to catch me
    When I stumble and fall
So I'm out on a limb
But I'm learnin to stand tall
