How to double your cylinders!

This section covers the transformation of a 1988 Ford Mustang LX 4 banger to a respectable 8 cylinder. Visit Kevin Kepler's 1992 Mustang section on this site to see why the transformation was necessary. The search for a good donor car began soon after the 92 lost its battle with the telephone pole. We looked at a total of three 4 cylinder notchbacks. The first had a rust problem and the second had been hit in the front and was reapired poorly. The third time is a charm as we found a perfect donor for $1100. There was no rust and the interior was in good shape. Obviously nothing else really mattered because we planned on changing everything and I mean EVERYTHING!

Instead of dealing with the mismatch of years (We went from a 92 to an 88), we decided to change everything on the new notchback. All wiring harnesses were to be replaced, dash and center console were going to the new car and the stearing wheel was also going to be transplanted. The airbag equipped 92 made the differences in the wiring harnesses too drastic so a complete change was necessary. Fuel lines, brake lines, shocks, struts, springs, rear, blah, blah, blah were all to be changed.
