Frequently asked question by patients/attendants visiting Lok Nayak Hospital and the responses (R) of the hospital authorities

1. Ask about and seek information on various specialists such as medicine, surgery etc. What are their days and what are the timings of out patient department (OPD)
R. Consultants have fixed days and are available twice or once a week in OPD
2. They ask about the consultation and tests, if these are free or available on payment
R. These are free of cost except some very special tests like C-T scanning
3. They ask about the availability of the medicines and if these are free or one has to pay. They also want to know about the number of days for which medicines are prescribed and given.
R. Medicines from the pharmacy are dispensed free of cost and for a few days at a time.
4. Patients also ask as to Why they get long dates for surgical procedures and specialized tests such as C-T scanning and ultrasound
R. The hospital is overworked and has long waiting lists due to heavy rush from not only Delhi but the neighboring states as well, hence some waiting period is there.
5. They also ask why the implants are not made available to them.
R These are costly items End it is not possible for the hospital to provide these. However, the hospital does not charge any fee for implanting these.
6. They frequently ask about the competence of the doctor whom they are going to consult or the one who is going to operate.
R. Hospital has highly qualified end trained doctors, nurses, end technicians.
7. They ask about the availability of meals and the place of stay for their friends and relatives.
R. Hospital kitchen provides meals and special diets, i.e. diabetics, renal failure etc.
8. They often ask about the progress and prognosis of the case.
R. They are told to discuss the same with the treating clinicians.
9. They often ask why there is delay in getting reports of tests end investigations as well as the reports themselves when these go missing.
R. Some tests take time like culture and sensitivity, other results are readily available.
10. They ask for an ambulance to carry a discharged person
R. If available the same is provided at nominal fee.
10. They also ask for the 'Hearse Van' to be provided when someone has died and they want to carry the dead body back
R. This is provided at a fee when available.
11. They ask the hospital to provide blood and are reluctant to donate the same for replenishing the hospital stock.
R. Hospital has a huge demand for blood. They are adviced to have 'blood for blood'. Donating a unit of blood has no adverse health consequences and is safe.
12. They ask for overstay and do not want to be discharged when cured
R. Due to heavy workload and high turn over the hospital is unable to accommodate such request but sometimes genuine request may be accommodated.
13. They ask for routine care in the busy casualty ward but are told to go aback and come during OPD timings.
14. They often ask for a disability certificate with a disability percent of 40% or more so that they can get the benefits.
R. The disability certificates are readily provided after assessment by orthopaedic dept.
15. They ask why in acute cases dates for C-T and other special tests are given early and why not the same in routine cases.
R. Serious case may reguire early or urgent intervention. Routine cases can wait.
