The second reason I am writing, I was disappointed that there wasn't a website for RAF Sculthorpe. I ventured into new territory and created one. RAF Sculthorpe Alumni. I have a hard time putting faces with names but have no trouble remembering the fun we had. I'm the one who worked mostly in Annies Parlour, long blonde hair and glasses. Diane was across the hall, Jean upstairs, Lionel and Loveday down the hall and Mrs Angel next door to name a few. I worked on base with Carol Mergil, Pat Brown, Eddie, Jean and Gill (two sisters) to name a few more. Was just back for a visit, things have changed. Saw Pat and she would like to get in touch with Tom Orlando 1966-67, also Fred Deskin. E-mail me for more info. Have been living in the U P of Michigan since 1979, close to K I Sawyer AFB. K I Sawyer closed a few years ago so now its like living in Rendlesham forest without the people, definitely not the single life. Sick of snow but have 4 grandkids here. My father, retired March 1999, spending 13 years at Randolph AFB. Between RAF Bentwaters and Randolph, were assigned to Edwards, Fairchild, and Tinker. One was an airman at the clinic back then, she is now a Reserves SMSgt working with me daily as a GS. The other a junior bioenviron. engineering officer, Chief of Bioenv Engineering at HQ, named Larry Pazyra Another attendee was someone who many of your web-site readers may remember, the base pediatrician at RAF Bentwaters, Jim Smalley, recently retired as Colonel (to CA), was the Chief Pediatric consultant for the USAF. Dick Shively: RAF Bentwaters, 1960-1963, 81st Air Police Sq. I really enjoyed reading your web site. Shortly after arriving at RAF Bentwaters, I was asked if I wanted to go to the British K-9 school. I already had four years of K-9 experience from the states, so of course I went. It wasn't too long after returning from the school that several of us were asked if we would like to live at the kennels. About eight of us volunteered. There was a small building on the grounds with a canvas top and a pot belly stove inside for warmth. We used the building kitchen to cook our meals and also prepared the food for the dogs at the same time. I guess sometimes we ate theirs and sometimes they ate ours. The kennel area was down over a little hill from the alert aircraft area. In 1963 I married Anita, who lived outside of Ipswich and after we were married, we moved into a little house in Kesgrave. In October 1963 we returned to the states. We will celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary in May of this year. I am attaching a copy of the K-9 patch I wore on my fatigues while in the Dog Section. Thought some of the others might remember the patch too. King, with a big smile, and I Greeting visitors to the base. Would like to hear from anyone who wants to contact me. 2/18/01

James F Short Jr: Germantown, TN. RAF Bentwaters, Aug 1955-Jul 1958. Father was Captain Short 81st FMS. I found this site a few days ago. I have already exchanged e-mails with a couple of fellows who knew my Dad. He had a fatal heart attack in 1970 at the age of 48. My mother is living in Columbus, Mississippi and is listed as F R Short. We always had fond memories of RAF Bentwaters and I took my Mother and Sister back for a visit in 1984. I started my love of airplanes when I use to go to the flight line and maintenance hanger with my dad and our boxer dog. I fly for Fedex now. I am interested in any information and photograghs of aircraft my Dad had painted in Wing colors. Serial numbers for the C-47's and T-33's (also pilot and crew chief's name on canopy's)and photograghs that will help in building models of these aircraft would be of great help. I have decals for the three squadrons of f-84's and the Beaver l-20. Thanks if you can share information. 10/31/02
