  • Jamie F Cabral: Peoria, Arizona. RAF Bentwaters, 1987-89, 510th FS The Buzzards. Great site! The creek was my first duty station. I had the time of my life being stationed there. I was too young at the age of 19 to appreciate where I was. Jet Engine Mechanic / crew dawg. I loved the A-10. I miss all of my old friends and all of the good times we had. I'm still looking for some old friends. Since I left, the USAF has crossed me over into the F-16 world which makes it even tougher to find 'Hog Keepers'. I'm currently stationed at Luke AFB, AZ. I'm an F-16 Crew Chief Instructor. Even though I have switched platforms I will always be proud to have worked the 'Hog' at a great place and with great people. I wish I could go back and be stationed there, but I know that will never happen again for any of us. Take care, keep in touch if you remember me, or the 'Boozehound Crew'. Or keep in touch just to chat about a lovely place that is seldom ever heard of these days! How ironic that later on 1995-99 I was stationed with the 78ts FS The Bushmasters at Shaw AFB. 2/23/01

Among the best times of my life. Went back for a visit last year (to WB Town) and cried when I saw the base. I was stationed there after I had completed a tour of duty at Bien Hoa Vietnam, hence only a 22 month tour. I was a Combat Security Policeman (Heavy Weapons- Mortar Gunner) and they sent me to England to be a Law Enforcement Flight Chief. I still can't figure that one out. My pub was "The Fox" in Finchinfield owned by Joe King. I used to sing (back-up) and play guitar with Bill McCann and Terry Gabrion at the FOX. We sang for our drinks and we must have been pretty good because we were "loaded" most of the time. When you're young you can tolerate that type of behavior. If anyone has any info for me I'll thank you kindly in advance. If I owe you money "I'm Broke", if I stole your girlfriend "She pulled a knife on me!" If you're my love child "I have this old football injury!" If I owe you a drink "I'm a Tea-Drinker!" But if you remember me, and the fun we had, write me. 6/27/99

  • Gill nee Compton and Jim Cleverly from Kent, England submitted the following: My wife has recently got interested in the Internet and is trying to trace an old work colleague from the early 1960s from Rushden, Northants called Ann Boytim (nee Payne). She married a US airman named Wayne Boytim around 1963/4 whilst he was serving at RAF Chelveston, Northants. They later moved to RAF Bentwaters and from there she has lost touch. We believe there was a son born in the mid-60s called Steven/Stephen. We have seen that Ann is listed on 60's Bentwaters site but that is as far as we have been able to trace. There is a Wayne Boytim listed in your White Pages in Tampa, Florida but we believe that is unlikely to be the correct one as we think they may have gone to live in Arizona on returning to the US after his UK service. Any assistance you are able to give us in this search would be most appreciated. 12/2/00

There were others like Knobby Walsh (Knobby came out of retirement to kick field goals for us). Dave Korcep was the coach of the team at that time and Paul Green was the QB. Al Berning played as well. I am sorry to see that Chappie James passed away....he was a real class guy. • Dr David W Clarke: University of Sheffield, UK. Having located you excellent RAF Bentwaters website, I'm wondering if it would be possible to post an appeal for information on your message board/s. I'm involved in research into an incident that occurred in August 1956 when the GCA unit at RAF Bentwaters tracked 'unidentified flying objects' on their radar screens. This incident triggered a major alert, with further trackings reported later in the evening by both the RATCC and GCA radars at RAF Lakenheath. My research has led me into contact with the RAF side of this story, in that I have been able to trace both the retired Controller who tracked the UFO from the GCI station at Neatishead in Norfolk, and crews from RAF Venoms who sent to intercept the targets. I have a list of names of personnel at Bentwaters in 1956 who were involved in the incident, and would like to trace these and/or others who may remember the events. The names of the personnel at RAF Bentwaters and other bases involved in the 1956 incident were: SSgt Lawrence S Wright, Control Tower Shift Chief, 1264th AACS Sq, RAF Bentwaters, TSgt Elmer L Whenry, GCA Operator, 1264th Sq, RAF Bentwaters, John L Vaccare, Jr, GCA Operator, 1264th Sq, RAF Bentwaters, 1Lt Charles V Metz, 512th Fighter Interception Sq, RAF Bentwaters, 1Lt Andrew C Rowe, 512th Fighter Interception Sq, RAF Bentwaters, Major Orville E Bixel, USAF Wing Intelligence Officer, 81st Fighter Bomber Wing, Captain Edward L Holt, USAF Air Targets Officer, Forrest D Perkins, Watch Supervisor, Lakenheath RATCC, SSgt Thomas Emerick, Lakenheath RATCC, A/3C James M Kastner, Lakenheath RATCC, A/1C Ronald R Erickson, Lakenheath RATCC. I'd appreciate any assistance you could offer and look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks for your assistance. Hopefully someone may remember something! 5/27/01

Great memories with my buddies Mike Morrell, Jimmy Lee, Willie Jackson, Coach Bob Batey, Al Love, Tom Lane, Bud Sadler, Louie Estrada, and others whose faces I see but names I can't recall. Some of the best times of my life were in England during that time. I would really like to locate the 81st Tac Ftr Wg patch as well as the 81st Security Police Sq patch. I lost them somewhere over the years but would be nice to have on my old AF jacket again. 11/22/03 I am looking for any of my buddies that played on the Base Basketball team from 1968-71 and of course any SPs from B-Flight Security at RAF Woodbridge. We had a great run in basketball and were runners-up in the USAFE tournament that was held at RAF Bentwaters in 1971. We should have won it all! Would love to hear from anyone from that time. Glad that I found this web site. 04/18/04 I had signed the guest book before but I put down my incorrect email address. The correct email address is listed above. I am looking for any of the guys that played basketball with me on the Bentwaters Phantoms team from 1968-1971 and also anyone that was a cop at RAF Woodbridge at that time, especially "B" Flight Security. This assignment was the best 3 years in the Air Force. If you knew me at that time, I would love to hear from you. 03/25/06
