Here are some of my chums who serviced the following Aircraft: London, Stranraer Lerwick, Sunderland Catalina, Fred Sadler, Tich Phillips,Jordan, Wilkie, Alec Attwood, Lots of memories. You have probably all done your last flight by now. I remember you all, we did our thing. Felixstowe is now a huge Container Port. Wonder if the barracks were saved? My wife and I live in Victoria Canada on the west coast. We are both WW2 veterans who with two young daughters emigrated from England in 1957. I decided after a short while, in 1957, to join the RCAF and ended my working days in the Canadian Coast Guard as an Electronic Technician. Where was RAF Station Felixstowe? Well if you know Felixstowe the base was at the extreme southwest end. There was an ACK-ACK battery close by and we were co-joined with the Royal Navy. It was visited on the odd occasion by the Luftwaffe and they always got a warm welcome. My inlaws lived in Ipswich. Our unit took back RAF Leiston from the American 8th Air Force when all the "Yanks" went home after doing a marvellous job. If you know where the container port is that was where RAF Felixstowe was. 5/23/01

Spent 23 years in AF with assignments to Luke, Rhein-Main, Cannon, Holloman, Lackland, and Hill AFBs. Just seven bases in a 23 year career, not too bad. A lot has happened since my ole Cripple Creek and Woodstock days. Life takes it's funny twists and turns. As of today, I divorced my English wife, remarried to a California girl who died of breast cancer, remarried again to a San Antonio Gal. We have four lovely daughters, Violet, Jade, Scarlett and Rose. Retired in 1993 as a senior captain with last duty as Logistical Officer working for the United Nations in the Western Sahara in Morrocco, Maratania, and Algeria. Returned to civilian life and also returned to Texas where I joined the Southern Pacific Railroad and became a Locomotive Engineer. To be quiet honest, I don't miss the Air Force. It just wasn't fun anymore. And, to start off with 4 years at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge I guess we all can agree, it was downhill from there. Ah but the memories, Ipswich Running Buck, Bawdsey Beach, London West End, etc. Any old fellow airmen who may be out there, drop me an e-mail. 02/7/01 & 06/19/01

Still going strong on active duty. Great to blow the dust off so many names and memories. Anyone know whatever happened to Darrin Davidson or Danny Jett? Or maybe Timmy Weller? Great to see the other names up on this site: Mike Beeson and Tony Congi playing "drown in dew" at the main gate on mids, Mike Shaw, Brenda Layton/LeMaire, Ken Hagge, Dave Ward, Jerry Connor. You Bravo Flt guys were always inferior to us day shifters. Police 1 this is Pharoh. Thor this is Pharoh. How about those staged 30 in 30 responses for the IG. More like a 300 in 30. Bowling alley chicken sandwich and onion rings, cup of coffee and I'm off to post. What a great time. Never thought I'd miss so many of you hellions. Hope to hear from some of you. 5/29/05

  • Ron Hesson: Marion, OH. RAF Bentwaters, August 1963-August 1967. Today I discovered your wonderful site. When I started looking through all of the information you have I was absolutely astounded! Pictures and friend's names brought tears to my eyes! I always thought we were a forgotten group. I was in "B" Flight, 81st Air Police Sq, assigned to security duty first then base patrol. Eventually I worked as an investigator for Sgt Hamner, Air Police Investiigations. I loved RAF Bentwaters and England. I "grew up" there and it changed my entire life. I went on to become a police officer in Marion, OH and retired as a detective in 1995. We have since moved to Stuarts Draft, VA. I noticed a lot of guys I was with in the 60's are not on the 60's list. (The 60's list are the people I knew, worked with, that I recalled...Jim T). I hope to find them now. The folks that created this site will never know how delighted I am. I cannot find the words to express my true feelings. Thanks! 2/28/00

  • Bill Higginbotham: Rumney, NH. RAF Bentwaters, Jun 1982-Jul 1985, 81st CRS ECM RWR Shop. Hello, some of the best times of my life were while I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters. I lived in a flat on Bolton Lane, Ipswich. My local pub was the Woolpack just up the road. I have been back several times since leaving England. I absolutely love the country. I remember some good friends I had there. Bob and Kathy Koos, Rick and Natalie Lappiere, Chas Lucas,Rick Norseworthy, Kyle Rogers, Bert Shamsideen, Ed Workman and so many others. I visited the base in the summer of 2002 and they let me drive all around the tech side. The ECM shop was still there with all the art work still on the walls. What a trip to see all that. I sure do miss the people and the good times at RAF Bentwaters. If anyone recognizes my name, please drop me a line. 11/21/04
