  • Jim Hollingsworth: In early 1958 I was TDY to RAF Bentwaters from Shepherds Grove for training. I was an A/3c in charge of the Roads & Grounds shop there. I was AFSC 55131 and had to have a trainer for my 5 level, so they sent me TDY to RAF Bentwaters. SSsgt Jack Brown was my trainer there, and also NCOIC of the shop. When the Grove closed, I was the last of two permanent party to leave. A2C William Maugel was my helper. We both went to RAF Woodbridge from the Grove, but I stayed a very short time. I worked as a building inspector there. Some of the people I worked with at RAF Bentwaters 1958-59 were. SSgt Jack Brown, NCOIC Roads & Grounds, Maj John J Leib, Civil Engineer, Eve Abbott, MSgt Clayton Wolfe, NCOIC AIO, ?? Pate, I think he was from NO LA, ?? Stutler. I was still in AIO in April 1959, when my oldest son was born. I realized that to advance in rank in that AFSC would be very difficult and I wanted to be nearer "them old airplanes" anyway so I cross trained & transferred to 81st FMS later that year. 06/10/04
  • David B Holmstrom: New Bedford, MA 02745. RAF Bentwaters, Nov 1969-Jul 1973, 81st OMS Phase hangers/flt line. I remember the times well, all those NATO drills, "the Green Man Pub" in Tunstall. We had a field kitchen right there at the hangers, in a Nissen hut. Early on we were the 92nd TFS (if I remember correctly) and then reassigned to the designator OMS. We did many trips to Aviano AB, Decimomano in Sardenia, and a base in Zaragozsa Spain. Would like to here from anyone in that time frame. Proud to have served. 05/04/07
  • John Hanson Dawn Holloway: 31, Red Lion St, Alvechurch, Worcestershire, B48 7LG, tel: 0121.445.0340, UK. I'm a retired Police Officer from the West Midlands who has spent the last 19 years writing up accounts of strange phenomenon which have taken place in the skies of the UK embracing the period 1943-82(Two Volumes). During my research I have spent a lot of time visiting Rendlesham Forest, next to RAF Woodbridge/RAF Bentwaters Airbases, in Suffolk, a locality that I and my partner have fallen in love with. Thanks to our good friend Brenda Butler, from Leiston ,whose fascination for the events that took place in the Forest during the end of Dec 1980, have always enthralled us. Over the last 7 years we have witnessed all manner of strange things including 'orbs' seen with the naked eye, and many weird mists and ghostly images captured on digital camera, many are contained on, our website. During our research weve come across many reports from ex USAF Personnel relating to strange objects seen in the Forest( Separate from the Dec 80 incident) which have included reports of an intruder aprehended inside the airbase, (a local youth who sought to frighten the Security Police)sparking off ghostly claims! Another incident when a SP fired at what he believed was a intruder. Suffice to say this man was removed from duty later following an investigation. Who was this man? Does anyboy know? What about the other occasion when an Airman saw something manifesting inside the airbase which left a scorch mark on the 'hood of one of the vehicles? Fact or fiction? If anybody can help we can be contacted either by email or tel. 03/15/04

  • Terry Horth:Just logged on for the first time. Excellent pages. I read the entry by Ron Hesson regarding Burt Hamner. I was the Detective Sergeant (Suffolk Police) in charge of the Woodbridge Division during that period and worked with Burt Hamner and a Mike Gibbins, both Air Police and a couple of the finest cops going. We worked on many cases together, and had a few beers and a lot of laughs. I wont tell you of the various scrapes we had and our means of detecting crime but we got the results. When Burt left I managed to scrounge for him a old Police Cutlass from about 1840 and a set of prisoners leg irons with various fitting from childrens' size to adults. Mrs Hamner, who was skilfull in pottery made me a set of decanters which still have pride of place in my home. This enough of my chatter. I wish all of you the best of health and luck. Very happy memories from Terry. 7/27/00
  • Thaddeus Hosley: Miami, FL. RAF Bentwaters, 1978-80, 1986-89, 81st TFW. Hey, this is so great. I've scanned the guest book and just had a good time reading about everyone's experiences. I was first on RAF Woodbridge, AGE Shop, right next to the PJ's. I had the most incredible time. I don't remember many names from back in the day, but I know some of you will remember mine. I'm the black guy with freckles. I worked with Larry Parrot, Truck Turner, and Big Mack. After hours, I hug around at the gym and drove a red VW. When I came back, I worked in the Public Affairs Office in Wing HQ. I was the tour guide and often went to the A-10 gun shop and missile maintenance and flight line to show the A-10. After hours, I hung at the gym, took photos at the football games and traveled all over the place. I had a silver Mercedes and Earl Johnson and I hung out a lot. I left RAF Bentwaters and went to Camp New Amsterdam/Soesterberg, Holland and had the time of my life. I'm retired and living in Miami. I've been blessed in a big way. Send a note if you remember the good old days. 9/11/04
