Jean-Charles de Lara
Charlie was born on March 18, 1988 in Imus, Cavite, during a lunar eclipse. It was 8:00 in the morning that day, and I can still remember when we were watching the lunar eclipse while we were waiting on her mother to give the final sign. As the moon passed through the sun, we heard her mom shouted that the baby was coming. The midwife and I rushed to her side and started delivering the baby. I saw Charlie's head first, and then she slowly twisted as she moved out from her mother's body. It was a very exciting experience, that I had the chance to caught her by my hands while she was entering this world. My eyes were filled with tears and I was surprised to see her as white as a bond paper.
During the time that I lived with Charlie, she had demonstrated intelligent characteristics. She usually made good in school. She was very good, you know, but it was unfortunate that I did not have the chance to completely guide her in her studies. Today, she is presently working in one of the well-known cosmetic factories in Japan. At a very early age, she allegedly learned how to support herself. She once rented a room near her mother's house. Now I understand, she is like me. What happened to us made her a strong young lady. I am so proud of her, and I am confident that she will be able to face all kinds of challenges in life.
A Revelation From Charlie
A revelation from Charlie has disappointed me so much. Charlie got pregnant by the age of 18. It made me cried, but I have to accept everything as a consequence of my not being around my kids. She gave birth to my grandson and she named her Danferd John. I pity my child so much then, but although it made me very sad, it also made me a truly happy grandfather. Charlie is indeed a very strong girl. She told me that, although this happened to her, this is not going to let her down. I believe her and I have no doubt, she is a very strong woman.
On February 24, 2007, finally, I was personally with my kids, Charlie and Carlo. It was the happiest moment on my life because after ten years of waiting, we are together again. I was also so lucky to see my grandson Danferd when he was just less than a year-old. Although that was for a very short time, because I had to go back to Cagayan de Oro City immediately, that was one moment worth remembering.
Luckily, Charlie and his boyfriend, Daniel now lives together with DJ (my grandson's nickname). The picture you see at the right is Danferd John my handsome grandson, together with his father, Daniel.
