For many years, she was simply the adopted daughter of powerful Alderaanian senator Bail Organa, and she herself was becoming a major player in politics. All this fell apart however when she met Luke Skywalker after being captured aboard a Rebel Blockade Runner. She was part of the Rebel Alliance now and a traitor. However, she knew she was fighting for the right side, and more became clear when Luke revealed the fact that they were twins.

Possibly most famous for the fact that she could have the most names in Star Wars, she was born Leia Skywalker, the son of Anakin Skywalker. When Anakin turned to the dark side, she could have been called Leia Vader or something like that. She is later adopted by Bail Organa and becomes Leia Organa. Later still, she marries Han Solo, and is then called Leia Organa Solo.

She only discovers that Luke is her brother in "The Return of the Jedi", and even after that she is reluctant to train fully in the ways of the force. Instead she stays in politics, and also raises a family. She has twins, Jacen and Jaina, and another son Anakin. She cares for these children through many battles, and rescues them on numerous occasions - but it pays off as she is later rescued by her children when they grow up and become Jedi Knights.
