Stark was a prisoner in Scorpius's Gammak base, until the arrival of John Crichton, which allowed Stark the opportunity to escape. Until then, he had been endlessly subjected to torture by the Aurora Chair, a machine that infiltrates the victims thoughts. Stark had been able to block out the image of a beautiful place he once saw, making Scorpius extremely curious as to what was being hidden. After over 100 visits to the chair, Stark escaped with Crichton and shortly afterwards, left Moya.

Though at first he seems almost completely nuts it turns out that Stark is really just easily excited, and mostly seems harmless enough. He has a mask over one side of his head, because he is a special part of his race, the Baniks, who are called Stykera. These Stykera are able to ease the passing of the dying on to the next realm. The side of his head glows when uncovered, and he can use it to pass on happy thoughts to the person passing away, as he does to Gilina in the episode The Hidden Memory. Stark returns to Moya for a brief visit to see Zhaan and the two become much closer, before things go wrong for Stark.

When Talyn accidentally destroys a trading vessel, (in The Ugly Truth) Stark takes the blame, knowing that he can be dispersed (the method of execution used) and still stand a chance of reconstituting elsewhere. He does exactly that, and returns to Moya soon after, and with good news. He manages to locate Jothee and has a plan to rescue him for D'Argo. Though the plan is successful, disaster strikes again soon after when Aeryn Sun is killed by the Scorpius Chip, Harvey inside John Crichton.
The loss of Aeryn isn't the major thing for Stark, but instead the fact that soon after, his new found love Zhaan sacrifices herself to save Aeryn. After Zhaan's death, Stark sticks around for a while, (enough to get into trouble taking over as temporary Pilot aboard Talyn in the episode Meltdown), but it isn't long before Stark decides to leave the crew, and head off in search of Zhaan, or her spirit, wherever it may be.
