| As one of Bury�s six towns, Radcliffe is the perfect place for a day visit or a short break. Within easy reach of Manchester and Lancashire�s Hill Country, it is the ideal base for visiting England�s North West. The area combines dramatic countryside with industrial heritage and a wealth of attractions, some of which are described below. Leisure Activities There are a variety of parks, outdoor activities, and recreational locations in the Radcliffe area. The most popular of these being the Irwell Sculpture Trail, Outwood Park, Skatepark, and walking / cycling trails. Radcliffe is great for the cyclist because of the new cycleways that have been dotted around the town. For the more energetic visitor, Radcliffe has a wide variety of sporting facilities and clubs including a leisure centre with pool and gym. Shopping The town centre is OK for a quick visit and the towns market hall is running every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Wednesday is early closing day for many Radcliffe shops while Thursday is known for late opening. Bury and Manchester are within easy reach via bus or the Metrolink tram system. |
Parks Close Park is the biggest park in Radcliffe, covering an area of 11.19 hectares. Close Park has achieved the Green Flag award for 2005. Facilities at the park include: 1 Crown Green Bowling green 7 Full sized football pitches 1 Kids football pitch Children's play area Multi-play ball zone 3 Tennis courts Car park Excellent all round disabled facilities Perimeter Footpath (uses to include Health Walks) Coronation Park is just off Radcliffe New Road and it is where the 60s film 'A kind of loving' was filmed. The Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal runs through the town and will take you out into the local countryside. The Radcliffe to Bury stretch has recently been resurfaced with all weather tarmac. Further afield A short journey to Bury will give you many more options from shopping to trips on the restored Bury to Rawtenstall steam railway. A walk up Holcolm Hill to the Peel Monument is always a good idea. City centre Manchester is only a 20 minute tram ride away from Radcliffe, the city has got everything anyone could wish for but it is usually very busy. |
