Who We Are?

The Shelters National Network is an organization for Peruvian women. It was born because of the necessity and the women’s dreams of having a new society free of violence, making people respect their rights, ending with centuries of intolerance, discrimination, extreme poverty, rapes and sexual harassment, murders against women and children.

The Shelters National Network was founded in 1998 with the union of different shelters that represent the natural regions of Peru. The necessity of saving thousands of women’s lives that daily live in sexual and family violence as well as in poverty. “The women’s voice was founded in 1982, being this the first shelter in Peru for women and children who are victims of sexual and family violence. “The women’s voice” shelter was the first stone to keep creating the whole National Network.

Women and Children that are victims of sexual and family violence as well as of extreme poverty find in the shelters a place where to get over of the consequences of violence that they have suffered for years. they also find in these shelters a new opportunity to have a new life without violence. We help victims to get over by making them know their human rights and working on their self-esteem, as well as giving them the tools to generate their own economic resources through production.

The shelters are places that generate life and are the center to generate sensitivity and awareness of the terrible consequences for the society, the violence that women and children have to live.
