| July 17th 2001 Went on holiday to Crete for a fortnight, so no work to be done on the car for a while. August 2nd Deburred chassis and painted first coat of undercoat. Cleaned rear suspension cross member.6 hrs August 3rd Sorted out nut and bolt pack into seperate containers. 1hr August 4th Painted 2nd coat of undercoat on chassis and painted rear suspension cross member. 4hrs August 6th Removed and dismantled front suspension on Sierra. Cut strut to use on rear suspension, cleaned and painted same. 5hrs August 7th Cut slits in bottom of rool bar for rear suspension strut. Rubbed down undercoat on chassis ready for top coat. 2hrs August 8th Chassis was turned upside down and supported off the floor with thick wire rods through the frame onto beer crates to allow chassis to be painted in one go. Painted top coat on chassis. 3hrs August 12th went to Kit car show at Malvern, bit of a wash out. Found 1 1/4" rubber gromets to seal off cut ends of tube on chassis. tried them when i got home, perfect fit. August 13th Bolted rear suspension to chassis and fitted diff., drive shafts, hubs ,brake drums and wheels. Secured floor to chassis with self tappers, made key hole cuts in handbrake cable angle and fitted under floor. 10 hrs August 14th Fitted rear suspension springs with cut strut from Sierra and bolted on shock absorbers after much measuring and drilling of brackets for top mount. Deburred front suspension components. 8hrs August 15th Clean and paint front suspension components 4hrs August 17th Started to fit near side front suspension wishbones, had problems fitting top rear bracket as the bottom edge of the bracket hit the chassis tube and bolt hole in bracket not clearing tube above. After some mods. to the bracket the top wishbone was bolted in place. The bottom wishbone was more straight forward just lots of holes to drill to line it up. Mods. to offside top bracket made ready for fitting. 8hrs August 19th Continued fitting off side wishbones and both coil over shock absorbers. Steering rack bolted in place and both hubs connected to wish bones. 4hrs August 22nd Fitted track rods, brake disks, brake calipers and wheels. Drilled second hole in rear suspension tube to higher rear suspension. Found car sitting lopsided now on all four wheels. 2hrs |
