| Nothing much done to the car since November last year as I had lots of other commitments to attend to. March 15th 2002 Made up a new alternator bracket to fit the alternator to the other side of the car. Bought a new fan belt 960 mm long to fit as the old one is now too long. April 7th Went to the kit car show at Detling. Saw Daz's newly SVA'd 2B and another RHood with a wicked tiger paint job. Very dissapointed with the limited number of stalls as I had a list of things to get as long as your arm but only managed to get a few of them. April 8th Started removing brackets from the bottom of the sierra seats ready to fit to the car. Problems fitting the passenger seat as the edge of the seat hits the handbrake. Modified the side of the seat with an angle grinder and a lump hammer, now fits ok. April 9th Welded 2 1/2" square plates to the handbrake support angle to mount the seat front securing bolts through. Drilled through the floor and plates for the seat bolts. The seats should now be rock solid for the SVA. April 12th Spent much of the day deburring the side panels rear wings and nose cone infill panels. Rear wheel arches attached to rear wings and triangular infill panels cut and fitted. April 13th Fitted engine loom, engine management system and coil. Adjusted wires to fit and secured all wires around engine compartment. Cut triangular infill panel and secured in position. April 14th Started fitting near side panel in rear wing, could not work out what to do with the 1" gap between the bottom fold on the side panel at the back and the floor. Decided to remove the wishbones and fit the nosecone infill panel. Some of the holes on the infill panel needed enlarging to fit. Trimmed the front of the panel where the tube bends to make it easier to peen over without getting ripples on the end. April 15th Removed side panel and bent the 90* fold on the bottom to about 100* at the cut made where the chassis changes direction to about 120* at the back. Then I bent the fold 1/2" from the edge back to the horizontal. Put the side panel back on the car and the bottom fold was lying flat up against the floor. Drilled and screwed the fold to the floor, cut the top of the panel at a taper to be level with the tube then pushed the top down slightly and screwed it to the tube. The result is a perfect fit with the curve in the rear wheel arch. Wheel arch temporarily fitted with a few screws. April 16th Marked holes in tabs on rear wing onto rear side panel, removed wing and drilled 40 ish holes. Punched through a few holes in the wing piping after lining it up with the rear wing tabs and screwed the whole lot into place. |
