| Les's 2B kit car |
| August 24th Found lopsided car due to top ball joint having no more movement owing to it's angle into the dummy strut. The top of the dummy strut needs to be a bit higher on the hub thus reducing the angle. This would also give more clearance between the spring and top wishbone. September 2nd Went to the national kit and performance car show at Donington, came away with a stainless steel petrol tank to give me a bit of boot space. This was not the deciding factor as the sierra petrol tank was found to have a leak on the top and had to be replaced. September 5th Stripped wiring loom out of sierra, enough wires there to rewire a house. Picked up gearbox from scrapies for 15. September 6th Made some mods to the gearbox bell housing to fit my engine, after much measuring found the a thinner flywheel will be needed for the clutch to work correctly. September 10th Cleaned and painted gearbox. 4 hrs September 12th Removing non essential wires from sierra loom 3 hrs September 19th Bolted modified flywheel to engine and clutch to flywheel, gearbox then bolted to engine. Fitted engine/gearbox/prop shaft into chassis, rear of engine very close to cross tube on chassis. 5 hrs September 20th Fitted gearbox mounting, and started fitting seat back panel. 4 hrs September 23-25th Continued fitting seat back panel, tunnel sides and both foot panels. None of them actually fitted as I had to cut every one to fit, should have used a carboard template for the foot panels. 10 hrs. October 1st - 4th Cleaned and fitted rear brake lines, cut plywood board for back of car. Got servo, linkage and pedals from scrappies for a fiver from an E reg fiesta. Trial fitted same, lots of mods to make. Trial fitted steering wheel and shaft and made plate for servo to fit on passenger side. 6hrs October 8th Fitted steering linkage after drilling new hole for crimp bolt as hole already in square block was too central to the shaft and would have seriously weakened it if used. 3 hrs October 17th Joined both halves of bonnet together and placed on car to see if there was any room to raise the engine. Not much room to raise the engine but brake reservoir 1" too high, Back to the drawing board with the servo again. October 20th Servo, linkage and pedals removed again, new holes drilled to lower it the required amount. Fuel line secured from engine to back of car. 6hrs October 26th Fitted fuel tank, cut and reshaped fuel filler. 2hrs |
