It is important for a classroom teacher to be proficient in the methods, standards, and activities that are presented in a course curriculum. The teacher needs to know what a student is expected to learn and accomplish throughout the course in order to establish learning goals. Further, the teacher needs to plan how to achieve those goals. Through a proficient knowledge of the curriculum a teacher can find the best methods to reach each student. It is also possible to plan the most effective sequence of presentation if all of the pieces are known from the beginning. A teacher's content knowledge base should be the basis for writing and designing the course curriculum. Through content knowledge, individual learning goals can be established and the best methods to achieve those goals can be determined. By having the best curriculum possible, the learning within the classroom, school and district will improve.
