Domain 1

Domain Expectation 1.4

The candidate creates interdisciplinary learning activities that
enable students to integrate knowledge and methods of
inquiry from different subject areas.

Introduction

In order to meet the requirements of this domain, the exhibit must be interdisciplinary and use methods of inquiry. The students must be able to use knowledge from other disciplines in an activity/project.

Title

Lauréats Nobel Posthumes

Exhibit Explanation

The exhibit is a WebQuest that I adapted. It requires the students to use knowledge of history, writing and technology. The student is required to find the history and requirements of the Nobel Prize, the history of a time period, the invention or innovation created by a particular person and to determine past and present its effects. Students were required to take notes on the contributions and people. The students made their nominations at the same time this years Noble winners were announced.

Rationale

This project is based on Indiana standards, our school improvement goals and is supported through research. Students used previous knowledge of research, technology, art, science, math, writing and other disciplines. The project required that students use critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Self-Evaluation and Reflection

Through an evaluation of the project and the methods used, I have found that the overall goals of the project were achieved. Students were able to use the knowledge that they gained in their research on Nobel in their U.S. History class. The students were actively engaged during the lesson. They used the Internet, books and information acquired from other teachers to lead their searches.

The next time that I do this project, I need to begin a week sooner. Problems with the computer system and testing interrupted and elongated the process.

How Observed and/or Verified

Some of the student presentations were video taped, photos were taken during the project and posters or PowerPoints were created. The project posters and PowerPoints were displayed and the pre and post-test results were graphed.

Validation of Student Learning

Student learning was validated through pre and post-tests, presentations, and discussions of the contributions.
