Introduction

Alfred B. Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, established the Nobel prizes for peace, literature, physics, chemistry, medicine and economics. The prizes were created to honor "those who during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind."

Nobel prizes have been awarded to many French laureates throughout history. You are being asked to add worthy persons from the past to that list. The Nobel Foundation is offering you the chance to nominate French men and women who lived in the time period before the establishment of the Nobel Prizes or who contributed in a field not previously acknowledged. These posthumous awards may be awarded only to a person without whose contribution the world would be adversely affected either in the past and/or present. You will be asked to provide the verifying evidence of the significant contribution of your nominee, details of their life and the time in which they lived. Additionally, you must state your reasons for making the nomination.
