Rationale
Research indicates that a standards-based approach is important
for student learning. The curriculum guide uses national and state standards
as a framework. By using the state standards as a framework, the guide is
assured of articulation with the standards. Additionally, there is continuity
to the overall foreign language program.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
Through examination of the writing process of the guide, my
teaching practices and the results of data analysis, I have determined that
I have a good knowledge of the national and state standards. I understand
how this standards function in the classroom, however I do need to review
brain research information on the learning of second languages.
How Observed and/or Verified
The current and past principals monitored the progress of the
guide. The department head and I took a day to finish the document draft and
finalize our format. The guide was presented to the school board and the superintendent
acknowledged my input.
Validation of Student Learning
Student learning is documented through the documentation of
standards and the collection of data associated with the completion of standards,
placement tests results and student standard portfolios. At the end of each
year, students in all levels of French assemble a portfolio in which they
demonstrate their completion of the standards.
