Though the texts on ancient history are incomplete, scholars have pieced together what is believed to be the most likely series of events that led to the existence of the beings that are known as vampires. At the dawn of the existence of the humans, many of the gods took an active interest in their development. Over the course of time, other races came into existence out of the influence the humans exerted over the world. The wemic and the dendrophid were examples of the results of gods' interventions due to human action. Shortly after the dendrophid had suffered their final curse, one god became keenly interested in the human race and how it could be manipulated to form newer, more evil groups to serve his purposes.
He took the form of a mortal himself, and walked amongst the humans. While traveling, he was attacked by a band of wandering mercenaries. He easily defeated the entire band, slaughtering them mercilessly save for the leader who held power through his keen intellect and charismatic demeanor. He instantly recognized that this could be no mortal traveler, and attempted to bargain for his life. The disguised god saw his opportunity to twist the human to his purposes. He cast a spell upon the human, changing his body to reflect how the god saw him.
"To this day you have survived by using those weaker than yourself. You have charmed and used others to gain what you have wanted. From this day forth, you shall depend on others for more than just your wants, but also for your needs. You shall never hunger for food or water again, but you shall thirst for the blood of the other mortals of this land. So long as you can feed on the life of others, your own shall be preserved. Your intellect and charm shall serve you well in this. Go now, and forget not the gift I have given you."
The man ran, fearful and unbelieving. However, his lack of desire for meat and drink and the overcoming bloodlust that he experienced soon drew him out of denial. He went forth, thriving in the darkness, surviving on the lives of his victims. He soon discovered that he could, when done properly, pass on the gift he had been bestowed to others. The process in which this is accomplished remains a mystery.
Vampires posses a keen intellect and charming persuasion, inherited from the first of their kind. They excel as casters as well as psionics, though they are most well suited to the darkest of magics in the form of necromancy.
