No one is certain when pixies came about in history, it seems they were always simply accepted as existing. What is known is that they were closely tied with the high elves, perhaps even related to them directly but changed by magical means. Sometime during the punishment of the high elves the pixies were abandoned by their protectors and forced to live by their own means. Being as they were physically inferior to most basic races of the time they adapted lightning fast reflexes to evade their predators. They naturaly began to migrate to the most obscure and concealed places in the land to seek shelter from such treacherous times. There alone and isolated they developed their own culture and ideas.
They established themselves into casts to provide for a working society. Many sprites became hunters, thinkers, healers, leaders; all the things a community needs. The most whimsical and entertaining of them became the Crystalwing pixies, known for the most extravagant and beautiful wing markings. The leaders where called the Emerald pixies, denoted by their green regal appearance. The hunters in the community became highly revered and know to be called he Bloodwings, marked by their crimson colorings, this group maintained a high esteem and generally only paired with other Bloodwings. Many other groups of pixies emerged, but none so prominent as these and as time progressed the pattern continued amongst the pixies to mate within their class, eventually dividing themselves into distinct groups. It was some time before they began to reemerge into the realms, and only by the promising appearance of safety that could be found in the most recent elven communities once again.
Pixies are small magical flying creatures. They are very similar to elves in appearance, however they are much tinier. The average Pixie ranges anywhere from 6 inches tall to about a foot. In general pixies are a very happy benevolent race that finds the simple joys of life fascinating. Ironically many races are annoyed by this, as pixies have been know to stop quests for days to stare into a shiny pond, or admire a beautiful flower. They have very close bonds with nature and tend to be far more agile than most races. As a result of their history of casts, pixies have very strong beliefs and feeling toward their family, and pride for their cast. |
