Moose

Moose and calves just before Jackson Hole. Summer, 1993...
The moose is one of the favorite animals in Yellowstone that people enjoy seeing. They are bigger than the elk and more dangerous if you get too close to them. They sometimes will charge you, believe me, I know! They can be found around the Canyon and Lake area. Also, lately around Lamar Valley.
For awhile they were hard to spot, but they are more visible the last two years. I enjoy just standing and watching them. They are seen in the late afternoon along the tree lines. Drive slow because they blend in well.
You can't find a moose much bigger than this. The male has the horns. I was about 15 feet away from this one. August, 2001, Just before Canyon, from Norris.
Now this is real close up action. I was standing behind a log, six feet away from this moose running by me, (or at me). This was just behind the Lake Lodge cabins, summer, 1976. It was exciting and a little scary at the time. So this is what I mean that will chase you!
Now how is this for a moose smile? By lake area, 1986. This is a young moose. See the short antlers.
Nice looking moose just taking a lunch break. Canyon, 1986. Notice how the antlers and are different from that of the elk.
