This shot is of Richard "Delmer" Dunlavy at the Pickaway County Fair after winning 2nd Place. This lawnmower is powered by a 11-horsepower Briggs & Stratton. This mower has a Dynamark frame from around 1977. Delmer has been racing lawnmowers since 1981.

Richard had a rough day at the Gahanna Grand Prix on July 18th, 1998. During a heat race, his tire was coming off and caused him to start to go sideways with fellow racer, Larry Potenza, on his tail and ended up in a fender bender. With some quick repairs, Richard got his mower back in for the trophy dash in Class 3 and came in 3rd Place! The above shot is from the OHIO MOWER RACERS sanctioned race at the Gahanna Grand Prix. He also competed in Class 1, but didn't place there.

Delmer showed up to a couple of races the 1999 season (Marysville, Ohio and Wapakoneta, Ohio), and did some fine racing -- but unfortunately didn't bring home any hardware!! Hopefully he'll give us a run for our money in 2000!!

On a personal note, Delmer got married during the 1999 season -- Best of wishes to the newlyweds!

Here Richard is pictured in the AP Class at the USLMRA Buckeye Regional at the All Ohio Balloon Festival in Marysville, Ohio. There were three different regionals held that day. In the 1st SP race, he finished in 18th (out of 20th) The top three finishers were David Zaremba (AL), Wayne Collett (WV), and Mike Bertrand (WI). In the 2nd SP race, Delmer was running in 1st place when he lost a tire 19th (out of 19). In the 3rd SP regional race, Delmer came out with a vengence with a 1st Place victory! YEE HAW! The 2nd and 3rd Place finishers were Dale Ost (MI) and Evan Bilingsley (MT).

Richard attended the 2000 USLMRA Nationals and Regional events in Greenfield (Indianapolis), Indiana on September 1st, 2000. In the SP Class Prolong Regional, he finished with an excellent 3rd place (out of 22 racers)!! The top two finishers were Brian Burdette (MD) and David Zaremba (AL). In the Nationals event, he finished with a very respectible 5th place (out of 21 racers). The 1-2-3 finishers were Brian Burdette (MD), Mitch Kiper (IL), and David Zaremba (AL).

Richard attended the STA-BIL Lawn Mower Race for Literacy exhibition on May 12, 2001 in Mansfield, Ohio. Richard brought home the checkered flag in the SP Class! In 2nd place was Ken Kiper (parts unknown) and fellow OMR Teammate Mark Beckett (Ashtabula) finishing in 3rd. Way to mow Richard!

Richard attended the STA-BIL Union County Regional held on July 28, 2001 in Marysville, Ohio. In the SP Class, Richard had a "random finish" behind the top 5. Coming in 1-2-3 were Dale Ost (Michigan), Dave Hertel (Wisconsin), and Art Neaville (Michigan). Richard also competed in the FX Class at this regional but did not finish in the top 5. Coming in the 1-2-3 positions were Kevin Penne (Illinois), fellow OMR Teammate Greg Honchell (Urbana), and Chuck Miller (Marion) -- also an OMR Teammate. It's better to have your own Teammates beat you if you have to be beat!

On July 29, 2001, Richard competed at the STA-BIL Ohio Regional in Celina, Ohio. In the SP Class, Richard was not successful in bringing home the trophy but is considered a tough competitor. Finishing in the top 3 were David Zaremba (Alabama), Charles Powell (Texas), and Dale Ost (Michigan). Richard also gave it his all in the FX Class but didn't bring home the hardware. In the top 3 were his fellow OMR Teammate Chuck Miller (Marion, Ohio), Kevin Penne (Illinois), and another Teammate of Richard's, Greg Honchell of Urbana, Ohio, respectively.

On August 18th, 2001, was the STA-BIL Buckeye Regional in Marysville, Ohio. Delmer had some trouble during the SP Class race and did not finish (lost a wheel). Finishing in the top 3 for SP Class were David Smith (New Jersey), Dale Ost (Michigan), and Mark Caruso (Michigan). In the FX Class, Richard brought home the 3rd place trophy!! Beating him out were Kevin Penne (Illinois) and Jeff Mellinger (Indiana) Way to Mow Delmer!

On September 1, 2001, Delmer attended the Mid America Regional and the 10th Annual STA-BIL Nationals event in Mendota, Illinois. In the SP Class for the regional, Richard finished with a very respectible 5th Place trophy! Ahead of Richard were: Charles Powell, Mitch Kiper, David Zaremba, and Dustin Stutts! Congratulations on your great finish Richard! At the Nationals race, Richard had a "random finish". The top 3 Nationals winners were: David Zaremba, Charles Powell, and Mitch Kiper. Richard also competed in the FX Class for the Regional and Nationals events, but had a "random finish." The FX Class top 5 were OMR Fellow Teammate Chuck Miller (Marion, Ohio), Kevin Penne (Illinois), Mike Miller (Wisconsin) were 1-2-3, with another OMR Teammate Greg Honchell (Urbana, Ohio) finishing in Fourth and Dink Strunk (Alabama) in Fifth. It's better to have some teammates win if you're going to get beat by someone, I always say!

Richard's 2001 Point Standings overall are as follows: In the SP Class, he finished 22nd out of 59 racers, and in the FX Class Richard finished in 12th out of 32 racers.

Richard participated in a just a few races in 2002, but when he can make a race, look out because he is surely to be one of the top contenders! Richard finished 15th overall for Point Standings for the 2002 season. His results are below.
