Mark is a wonderful friend who lives in London and whom I met through the Dalek Builders Guild. We traded emails back and forth about daleks and building and authentic parts, and traded stories of our lives. It was all great fun, and then even better when we met in person during my first trip to London in 2002.
Mark is a singer, actor, and dancer. When we first met online, he was singing at weddings, just like Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer although without so much of the drama. He had put out one CD of songs at the time and I thought they were quite good. Garth says Mark is a lyric tenor, and seems to be a bit jealous of that. All I know is that he sounds great when he sings.
Just before we met in person in 2002, Mark landed a role in the British hospital soap opera, Casualty as Hugh, one of the regular character's boyfriend. It's a shame it was just one time. But he's also been in two other tv mini series - Ultraviolet and Killer Net. Now we just need to get him in front of the camera lens again...
These days, he's teaching dancing and seems to love it. Lots of action and energy.
And then there's the daleks. His personal full size dalek, Dali, once had a shoulder section from a tv production dalek from Doctor Who, and signed by producer John Nathan Turner. Dali been renovated a few times to achieve different looks from the series, and in late 2003, it was on display in the lobby of the BBC London studios. Mark also managed to find some authentic, no-longer-available, light blue perspex (like acrylic) which is what the original eye discs were made from. He found several sheeets, had eye discs cut and I got a set from him. Now my dalek will be the only one in the US with authentic bits!
