Set up in attempt to stabilize the crumbling Republic and help along the negotiations with the Seperatist movement, the Loyalist Committee did all it could to save the Republic...but the Committee's own leader's schemes were too grand to be halted.
Comprised of senators who stood stoically by the Galactic Republic, the Loyalist Committee reported to and confered with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine directly. Though the Loyalists were all united in their ideals concerning the protection of the Republic, they were divided on the issue of the Military Creation Act; senators such as Bail Organa and Padm� Amidala opposed the formation of a Republic Army, while the more power-hungry senators like Orn Free Taa and Onaconda Farr voted for such a radical move.
After the failed assassination attempt of Padm� Amidala upon her return to Coruscant, the Loyalist Committee met in Palpatine's office to discuss this new threat, and security for Amidala. They later convened again to see Obi-Wan Kenobi's holographic report - and subsequent capture - from Geonosis, before again discussing the Military Creation Act. It was decided that an army was indeed called for, after Kenobi reported a massive Seperatist force was being assembled. Jar Jar Binks and many Loyalists supported Chancellor Palpatine as he gravely accepted the power to authorize the mobilization of a Republic Army. Unbeknownst to them, this direct control would later have disastrous consequences for the Republic, as Palpatine used it for his own Galactic Empire. The Republic fell; the honourable Loyalists failed. |
