BATTLE OF BRITAIN: CELTICS VS. LIVERPOOL

"You Scottish Rubbish!"

"You English Suckers!"

England vs. Scotland, just like Singapore vs. Malaysia, is a typical case of seldom get-along neighbours, especially in this case considering the history between the rivals.  This Thursday's match is thus billed as a "Battle of Britain" between 2 giants of English and Scottish football by the English newspapers and will be keenly watched by the press.

Just to add spice to the above, Liverpool ousted Celtic few years ago in the same competition by the away goal rule when Shaggy (Steve McManaman) scored a wonder goal in a 2-2 draw in Glasgow.  Furthermore, do you know that Celtic Fans also sang "You Never Walk Alone"?  This is really interesting!

However, a fact that will bother me is Martin O'Neill (Left).  When he was the manager for Leicester City, he seemed to have the measure of the Pools as he beat us on many occasions, particularly at Filbert Street. He has done very well in Celtic and has brought his favourite players such as Neil Lennon and Steve Guppy with him.  Liverpool Fans will certainly hope that he does not exercise the same magic for Celtic.  Well, if I can think of his threat, I am sure that GH and Co. will recognize it too and design counter measures.

(A sip of Martini for the Reds?)

It has been wonderful for the past 3 matches with consecutive wins, something that we have not been able to do for the past 4 months.  It is also good to see St Mike netting 4 goals in a row and we hope that his streak will continue and last as long as possible.  He has added certain dimensions to his game by consistently beating the offside trap and creating for fellow colleagues to score, such as the sublime assist for Dioufy.

Line-up wise, I don't think GH will vary much from the winning side against Bolton.  Although it wasn't a fantastic performance though, we made a solid, discipline and clinical performance.  Something that we have not been able to do in the few disastrous month.  Success does breed confidence, I am going for a narrow win for the pools, a fourth 2-0 victory on the trot?

By the way, I was right about Howard Wilkinson.  Cheers!
