LIVERPOOL: THERE ARE 37 GAMES MORE TO PLAY

18.08.03                    <<< Previous           Next >>>

I was actually quite happy with the performance of Liverpool last night. The team showed fighting spirit and was less defensive than last season. Dioufy was particularly impressive such that Ranieri, the Tinkerman, had to substitute Glen Johnson almost immediately after Dioufy gave him the run around. And of course, Dioufy earned the penalty after Wayne Bridge tripped him in the box. Lets hope Dioufy gets to play more (in place of the other "Bruno" - Cheyrou) in future and put in such performance consistently!

Last night's match also confirmed that Cheyrou is rubbish. He offered nothing for Liverpool and the team began to threaten more after Dioufy came on. In pre-season matches, I was not impressed with Cheyrou either, whom I thought should buck up after last season's dismal display. I think we would not see him much in future as he had one chance too many. Anthony Le Tallec might have put in a better display than him, and have scored twice in pre-season games, more than Cheyrou. It was a pleasant surprise that Le Tallec was on the bench as GH had indicated that he is likely to play in the reserves first. I have got this feeling that he might have his first team debut way before Florent Sinama Pongolle, the other French superkid does.

The other Liverpool player who had something to prove was Biscan. He put in a better performance than Cheyrou but in most Liverpool Fans opinion, is still not good enough. I thought he lost the ball a bit too much and was sometimes too hesitant. Probably this is due to a lack of first team matches. GH might give him more chances in future and Igor is one player I hope that he would do well.

  Owen missed            Gerrard, Badly missed

The defeat wasn't as hard to swallow as last season's last game defeat which cost us the Champions' League place. Liverpool did not deserve to be in the Champions' League this season as they did not do well last season. But on last night's performance, I am confident that better things would come in the next 37 games!
