DEPRESSION CLINIC

10.01.03                                                                                                                                      Previous Page           Next Page

It may be a good business to setup a depression clinic for Liverpool fans now with bouts of bad results coming in regularly.  The current slump seems to have no end and most Liverpool, and non-Liverpool fans point to the negative play of GH as the main reason.  After watching some of the matches, I think this could be a reason.  It could also boil down to our lack of confidence in passing around and holding on to the ball, and Stevie G hoofing up the ball in the first instance to the strikers, that caused us to lose possession and thus resulting in us having to defend more.

Whatever the reason is, it is very depressing……

Let’s turn to something positive: Chris Kirkland and Neil Mellor!  Our 2 bright spots in the current horror state.  Kirkland has looked steady over the past few matches and you can’t blame him for any of the goals conceded.  He took a crunching tackle from Michael Brown of Shitty United this Wednesday but he should be fine for Aston Villa.  I have been rooting for Neil Mellor to play since I noticed his scoring prowess in the Under 19s and reserves 2 years ago.  He is tall and shoots on sight and I think he will do a job which Heskey and all other strikers have failed this season, that is, to be the strike partner for Michael Owen.  With his scoring record, he will take away some of the burden for scoring which is boring down on St Mike.  If St Mike is unfit, probably the better replacement would be Milan Baros instead of Dioufy, as Milan is quick and similar to Owen.  But Milan might have lost his place as he “chickened” out in the Newcastle game.  A “crime” indeed!

The rest of the team, midfield and defence, are not worth any mentioning at the moment.  I think we missed Hamann’s long hands and long legs on the defensive end, which would allow Murphy, Gerrard and Riise to push up more.

I shall refrain from making any predictions this weekend or should I predict Aston Villa to win so Liverpool will do the opposite? Sigh….. getting depressed again……

After meeting the villians, we will be up again the Saints next weekend.  Gordon Strachan has just received the gong for December.  Will the curse of the gong strike?  We shall see…..  But I am quite impressed with their forward play against Spurs which they won 4-0.  That is the way we expect Liverpool to play instead of Southampton.  More update for the Southampton game next week for you.
