LIGHTNING STRIKES THRICE

18.10.02                                                                                                                                      Previous Page          Next Page

3 times!  Yes, it has been 3 times that David Seaman let the ball sailed over him since the World Cup.  Besides the 2 international games, it is easy to forget that he made the same blunder in the Bolton game.  Arsenal won that game, so no one remembers what Seaman did, or didn’t do anything?  He must be too busy keeping his ponytail from swaying too much while trying to jump for the ball.

Seaman : Yet another blunder

If you read the English websites and English newspapers, you would have noticed that David Seaman has his name splashed over the headlines again.

BBC has one of the most apt descriptions of his blunder:  Seaman has one of the safest pair of hands in England, but he has “feet of clay” too!  Eriksson is no philanderer since he has stayed loyal to his “monument”, or to the very least, the “statue”.   The article is very funny and very cruel.  The Englishmen do have a wonderful sense of humour and sarcasm!

It has been a busy week for soccer, both internationally and in EPL.  Lets do the international roundup first.  The England game Wednesday was a disaster for the Liverpool lads, Owen was unlucky not to score despite the chances he had, Stevie G made the mistake which led to Macedonia scoring the second goal and got stretchered off after he scored a spectacular goal.  Heskey?  He didn’t even get to the pitch as he was sent home for treatment on a groin injury.  In addition, Kirkland injured himself after 24 minutes in the England under-21 game.  Macedonia Who?  I was forced to eat humble pie.

Luckily, some of the other Liverpool players fared better with the exception of Hyppia losing 2-0 to Yugoslavia and getting a heavy knock on his hip in the process.  He should be fit to face Leeds in the weekend.  Baros and Riise scored and were both voted “Man of the Match” for their country’s respective wins.  Hamann and the Dude earned victories for their countries too.

Shock of the week?  Obviously its the game between Wales and Italy.  Soaring Magpies must be chirping with joy about Bellamy’s winner.  You may read his thoughts in his column:  Welsh Delight

Back to EPL.  The story of the week ought to be the scummy doggies’ ban.  In fact, it is the only story for the week.  Did he (Roy Keane) get away lightly? 5-match ban plus 150,000 pounds fine – just a slap on the wrist.  Scum head (Fergruson)  was reported to have a grin after the verdict.   I don’t think he will appeal for his doggie as that will prolong the process and he will not be able to get his doggie kiss the Arses in time.  Too bad, he will not be able to face Liverpool, else we will definitely step on “its” wagging tail.

Early kick-off at the weekend at Elland Road.  We thrashed Leeds 4-0 last season but lost 4-3 the season before to a rampant Viduka.  Thus we need to be careful.  God (Robbie Fowler) will not recover in time to face us but Leeds will look to avenge last season’s heavy defeat.  Hopefully Stevie G will recover in time to play.  Otherwise, we still have able replacements in Diao and Cheyrou.  GH will likely play Baros and Owen up front as both are in form.  I expect no further changes as both Hamann and Murphy have recovered from their injuries.

Game will be tight, but I still need to stick my neck out for the prediction:   Leeds 0, Baros 1.  You may catch the game live on ESPN at 6.55 pm on Saturday, or you may watch it at the Liverpool Fan Club at Maxwell Road, just beside Tanjong Pagar MRT.

Have a nice weekend!
