The King Challenge Melbourne 2001 was played in brilliant conditions on the Mornington Peninsula and in Melbourne. A record field of eight players included 4 past King Challenge winners and rookie Andrew 'AB' Bennett. Portsea hosted the first round in warm conditions, a tough opening round and plenty of wild scoring early on as the players settled into form or lack thereof. Reigning title holder and eventual winner Rohan launches into the first drive

Drama as Andrew finds the rough on the final day and surrenders his lead
 

Round three was played at Yarrambat Park, not one of the better venues but home club for Mike and Paul, both of whom played with the local knowledge Mike stormed back into contention with Andrew regainng the lead at the top of the leaderboard. ...more round 3 details

5 shots seperated the top six players going into the final round at Kingston Links, it was a classic final round and could have been won by any of the 4 leaders, Rohan maintained the cool throughout and finished strong winning by 3 from Andrew and Steve. ...more round 4 details

Putting Trophy
Again the putting trophy was a close one with Rohan taking the trophy by 1 putt from Mike and creating history with the first dual winner of the Challenge and the putting trophy.

The King Spoon
AB had a rough start carding a nett 92 after the first round and all but had the spoon wrapped up after that. he will be keen to pass it on at the next event!
