Components of Reading:
The reading Specialist applies knowledge of the interrelated components of reading across all developmental stages of oral and written language and has expertise in reading instruction at the levels of early childhood through grade 12.

Select and use instructional materials and strategies that reflect both cultural diversity and an awareness of instructional progressions that are based on a convergence of research evidence (e.g., reading aloud, dramatic play, classroom conversations, songs, rhymes, stories, games, language play, discussions, questioning, sharing information.
When the choice is mine of what materials and methodologies I can use in the classroom, I will, as a professional, turn to the research-based information that is current and important to the learner. The ability to select materials that are considered best practices, those activities that meet the needs of the learners in our community, and help the learner gather new understandings is our goal in the classroom. The youngsters will grow as literatechildren into adults. The use of experiences that encourage speaking, reflecting, and learning will be used to help pave the way in their learning.
