The beginning ESL teacher knows and understands ways in which community members and resources can positively affect student learning in the ESL program.
The Reading Specialist is responsible for remaining current on research-based instruction, and application of these ideals in regards to instructional strategies with learners. This also means that while doing these tasks that the pressure to teach in a fashion that is anything less than developmentally appropriate, is not upheld or supported. It means remaining true to yourself and your pedagogy for the good of the learners.
The ESL educator must speak for the families and youngsters who are not familiar with the English education system, and become the go-between for the family and educational entity.
