Battle of Wolf 359
A picture of the fleet after the battle.
The Battle of Wolf 359 is probably the single biggest loss in Federation history.
In 2366 a Borg Cube was detected in Federation space. In a desperate attempt to stop the vessel from reaching Earth 40 Federation ships were assembled at Wolf 359. Data about the battle is sketchy at best. What we do know is that 39 of the 40 ships were destroyed including the flagship captained by Admiral Hansen. At least 11,000 Federation officers lost their lives during the battle while the Cube proceded to Earth with little or no damage.
The USS Endeavour is the only known ship to have survived. It played a key role several more times including the defense of Earth in the Sector 001 Conflict.

Editor's Note: Though many have advertised and believe the USS Lalo participated in the battle, it is stated in "Best of Both Worlds" that the Lalo was lost prior to the battle.
