Job Application

This assignment gave me insight into some of the things employees are looking for in applicants. I learned what are the most important components of a cover letter and a resume.

When writing a cover letter I mostly learned how to include relevant background information about my education and working experience, and successfully tie them to the job I am applying for. I didn't have any problems writing the cover letter. The only thing I had to revise was the letterhead. I included the address of the company, instead of my own address.

I also learned a lot of things about creating a resume. I find out that it has to be professional looking, well organized and the page has to be balanced. The content has to be error free, correct, and most importantly honest.

When I started writing the resume, I was not sure what information to include. Resumes are short documents, and you only need to include specific and important information. However, you need to emphasize certain areas. One of those areas is education, where it is good to include higher-level classes that you have taken; that is if they are relevant to the job you are applying for.

The resume made me really examine the things that I have done in the past and decide how each experience can be related to my job. I had to think about my skills, areas that I am good at and emphasize them.

One area that needed revision in my resume was the subheadings. It is important to have headings and subheadings so the resume is easy to read. The one mistake I made was that I didn't italicize the name of the attended universities and my previous jobs.
