Instructions

Writing instructions is much more demanding that I anticipated. You need to describe and show others how to perform a task. Each step has to be detailed, clarified, and carefully planned. Therefore, writing instructions involves thorough analysis to ensure that the readers will be able to perform the task without any help. That is why the best instructions are combined with a set of illustrations and cautions. Graphics play a big role in instructions, because they can clarify certain areas, and make it easier for the reader to perform the task.

In my set of instruction the task would have been very hard to accomplish without graphics; especially for someone who has never griped a racquet before. Therefore, I needed to search for good pictures that would lead the reader through the task.

The task that I talked about wasn't dangerous in any way, so I didn't need to include any warnings, or cautions. However, I included a note, where I clarified the situation with providing some extra tips or hints.

The only area that need revision in my instruction assignment, was labeling the figures. I didn't include graphics for each step; therefore, I needed to clarify which step is referring to figure one, figure two…

Overall, I found this assignment to be very useful. It helped me understand how to approach a task that could relate to a wide audience (from people who have never done such a task before, to people who have).
