The term "Selznickers" was
made up by Margaret Mitchell and it meant people who were engaged in the
production of the movie version of GWTW. They are the unsung GWTW heroes - they
are seldom credited with their contributions to the movie, but their input was
considerable, whether it was supplying money, dealing with the paper work or
helping on the set.

Eastern Story Editor, 1935-1938; Selznick's Eastern Representative,
1938-1942;
In 1936 she brought GWTW to Selznick's attention: "I beg, urge, coax
and plead with you read it at once. I know that after you read the book
you will drop everything and buy it." Selznick was not as
enthusiastic and it was only with a great nagging on her part that he let
her negotiate the deal. Afterwards she was engaged in the casting process,
toured the South, dealt with M.Mitchell, writers and directors
trying to get them to do GWTW.

Selznick International and Pioneer Pictures were operating as one, except
for the ownership. Jock's decision to buy the rights to GWTW for the
Pioneer Pictures prompted Selznick to buy the book. Jock offered financial
help and later into the filming he put up an additional million to cover
up growing expenses. . |
